EMF stands for electromagnetic field and is defined as an electric and magnetic force field that surrounds a moving electric charge. It is sometimes referred to as electromagnetic radiation or EMR. Electromagnetic fields have different wavelengths and frequencies and are calculated in Hertz (Hz).
Why are EMFs dangerous and harmful for people’s health?
EMF's cause the human body vibrate at higher frequencies than normal and can affect the immune system, making people more sensitive to parasites, environmental pollution and a wide range of health problems.
Types of EMFs:
· Low frequency EMF radiation. They have lower frequencies than visible light and are non-ionizing radiation. Examples include EMFs from microwave ovens, computers, visible light, smart meters, WiFi, cell phones, Bluetooth, power lines, and MRIs.
· High frequency EMF radiation. These have higher frequencies than visible light, which are ionizing radiation. Examples include ultraviolet (UV) light, X-Rays, and Gamma rays.
EMFs are everywhere; we can't see them or touch them or smell them but they surround us constantly. EMF exists in nature but it is the unexpected increase of exposure to man-made EMF from new technology and smart devices which is causing a growing concern.
During a normal working day most of us will spend a big amount of time near our smart phones, computer, laptop or tablet. On top of that, if you have driven to work, you are exposed to such EMFs as reverse cameras and sensors, car alarms and bluetooth capability. And if you travel on public transport you are surrounded by the phones and devices of other passengers.
On any given day, we are being exposed to man-made EMFs at levels millions of times higher than you would naturally be exposed to in nature and levels millions of times higher than your body is designed to cope with. These EMFs create an imbalance between ROS (oxidants) and antioxidants and causes specific breaks in DNA strands, resulting in oxidative stress and a cellular stress response.
Negative effects of long term exposure to EMFs include:
· Skin problems
· Heart problems and high blood pressure
· Hormone disruptions
· Sleep disorders & disturbance
· Anxiety and depression
· Asthma and allergies
· Headaches and migraines
· Memory disorders
· Lack of focus and concentration
· Hearing problems/tinnitus
· Nausea
· Digestive issues
· Numbness
· Joint and muscle pain
· Fatigue and weakness
· Electrohypersensitivity (EHS)
· Mood swings and emotional instability
· Compromised immune system
· Random muscle pains
· Increased risk of cancer in adults and leukaemia in children
· Infertility
Where Do EMFs Come From?
Home – cordless phones, LED lighting hairdryers, vacuums, refrigerators, microwave ovens, irons, "smart" devices, all wireless & bluetooth devices, televisions, radios, electrical circuits, dimmer switches, electric blankets, electric razors, cell phones, electric toothbrushes, smart meter, baby monitor WiFi, etc.
Office/ School – computers, laptops, wireless keyboards & mouses, fluorescent, LED or halogen lighting, fax machines, all wireless & bluetooth devices, photocopiers, scanners, cell phones and WiFi.
Outside – power lines ( either overhead or in the ground), transformers, electrical substations, cell phone towers, wireless Internet (WiFi) and electromagnetic radiation.
Other - x-ray machines, tanning beds, cars, airplanes & airports, RDIF & metal detectors
How to Reduce EMF Exposure & Its Effects
Avoid living near strong EMF sources, if possible
Keep appliances and devices off, or on airplane mode as much as possible
Hard wire internet connections
Eat a nutritious whole foods diet high in antioxidants
Minimise your use of devise as much as possible
If WiFi use is necessary, only turn it on when in use
Hard wire your computer keyboard & mouse
Grounding/ Earthing, this allows our bodies to neutralize positive ions from electronic devices
Remove all EMF emitting devices from your bedroom.
If you still use your phone as your alarm clock, switch your phone to airplane mode or consider switching to a regular alarm clock
Keep electronic devices, i.e. cell phones, tablets, and computers away from your body, not in your pockets or bra.
Expose yourself to negative ions such as being near moving water or Himalayan salt lamp
Use head phones or loud speaker to make calls
Sleep away from smart meters, circuit breakers or large appliances that run overnight, including if the appliance is on the other side of the wall
Use EMF protection tools/ products
